Lee moved to the same school district as Brian in the 8th grade.  It was a small school district, she was the new kid in town.  They moved in differernt circles, Lee - quiet and artsy, Brian - social and sporty.  They met through a mutal friend a couple of years later when they were in 10th grade.  They quickly realized that they not only had a friend in common, but a couple of classes together as well.

Their first official date was the winter ball at their high school in 1996.  They continued on their paths of education and through fate, they both ended up attending The University of  Buffalo, Brian at first for Engineering and then switching to finance, Lee for Fine Arts and Architecture.  Did I mention that Lee is an amazing interior designer for ………  They stayed together all through college and they have been a couple ever since.

Brian and Lee kept February 14th as their anniversary (in honor of their first date), so on their 13th anniversary of being a couple, Brian planned a surprise get-away.  He had stashed a homemade in her purse early in the week, but Lee was busy at work and never stumbled upon it in her purse until late in that week when Brian finally called her and asked her if she had found anything unusual in her purse.

They left for a long weekend at the ever beautiful Niagara-On-The-Lake, where Brian had booked an amazing B&B including chocolate tasting, wine tasting a romantic dinner for two.  As they sat and dined, a horse drawn carriage drove by, Brian remarked how nice it would be to take a ride in one since they had done exactly that on their senior prom date.  Lee, being the realist, countered with the fact that you would have to make reservations way in advance for a beautiful ride like that.  Not long after that comment, a carriage stopped directly in front of them and called Brian’s name, Lee was shocked, but still not catching on to what was about to happen.  As they rode through the streets, Lee struck up a conversation with the driver about the history and architecture of the area, Brian eventually had to interrupt their conversation when he got down on his knee, recited the lyrics to one of Lee’s favorite songs and asked her to become his wife.  Lee could barely get the word Yes out as she sobbed in happiness.  They spent the most romantic and magical next three days together.  And soon they will be one.

I remember when my sister and I used to occupy ourselves on a warm summer afternoon with low-tech solutions to boredom.  It was only 15 minutes after my girls got off the bus the other day that they announced to me, “I am bored Mom”.  My answer to them was something that I would have totally heard my Mother saying to my sister and I - “Go outside and find something to do, use your imagination.”  And so they did, out came the garden hose and umbrellas and the next two hours were spent expelling boredom and using their imagination.  They then proceeded to make  a handmade fort out of lounge chairs and beach towels on the porch - to which my youngest said “Mom, you have to come see this, Sissy is the best fort maker ever!!!”  When I called them for dinner, they replied with “Awwww, can’t we eat out here in our fort?”  Well, yes of course, so out came the trays with their dinners on them and they sat in their “awesome” fort and ate their dinner and talked and chuckled.  This photo says it all - seriously, this reminds me to thank the good Lord for all he has given me.

I don’t usually do sessions for first communions, only because most people choose very traditional settings for their children’s first communion photos.  This, however, is the daughter of a wonderful friend and she was looking for something different and fun!  So off we went and let me tell you, we had fun, this little girl, who reminds me of my own 8 year old was such a delight to do this session with !  Her spirit is awesome and her Mom even more awesome :)  Thanks Miss P for letting me capture this time in your daughter’s life ;)

No matter how many times one sees a new baby, it is always a miracle for me and makes me appreciate life/family/love and all that the new baby brings!  This session was no exception and on top of it a client who I photogeraphed their first child for, that makes it twice (pun intended ;) ) as special for me.  This little guy is going to keep his Mom busy because even at 2 weeks old, he was one of the most alert and active babies I have seen!  Thank you Miss A. for all your patience and for all of the great conversation and for letting me be part of this time in your life - truly, it means so much to me!

I know I always mention how much I love my clients and how they always are open to my ideas, well this shoot was no exception to that!  This beautiful and talented dancer’s Mom contacted me and said that she wanted something unique for her daughter’s photo submission into a dance program.  My wheels started turning and lo and behold I came up with a wonderful old vacant building that was to all of our delights!  I was going for the NYC dance studio effect with a little bit of innocent simplicity and I think we achieved the gist.  I can’t tell you how much fun this shoot was not to mention how much fun this beautiful dancer and her beautiful Mother were to work with - they were abound with ideas once we got there too!

Crazy Hair Day At School!

March 28, 2010

So Friday was crazy hair day at my daughter’s school.  We decided to collaberate with some ideas, so I applied some temporary color hair spray and started an idea of beads in the hair.  Well, of course the creative little things that they are, took it a little further!  I think it turned out awesome, what do you think?!

I love my clients!  This family is no exception, we continue to have fun while doing their family shoot every couple of years.  The last time we got together for a shoot was the day before the October storm that we had in Buffalo and we did the shoot at Glenn Park in Williamsville, NY.  The day after our shoot together, the trees literally changed forever because of the storm.  This year they wanted to do a winter shoot, so we were able to fit in a weekend shoot while we still had snow on the ground!  Lo and behold, 1 week later, there is hardly any snow left and the rain and wind would have made it impossible to acheive what they wanted.  Long story, but to get to the point, these two teachers know how to time it just right!  S. family, I look forward to providing you with images of your family as you grow for years to come.

Organix Products - Love them

February 22, 2010

I don’t know about you, but at any given time, I have 3 to 4 different kinds of shampoo and conditioner in my shower.  I have this silly idea that I can not use the same shampoo two days in a row or my hair just does not like it!  Seriously, I really believe that changing up the shampoo each day works for my hair, call it crazy, wierd, whatever, but that is just me :) Given this train of thought, I am ALWAYS in search of a new shampoo.  I found this wonderful product at Wegmans (which I can’t say enough about either!) and I am growing to love it.  Organix has a great line of products, I have even tried their “Nourishing Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum” and not only does the product work great, but the smell is just as awesome.  I take a little mini-vacation when I use that product because the smell reminds me of a beach somewhere in the tropics ;)  So try it, you may be pleasantly surprised.

To go along with my random “Love It” post, I’m posting a photograph of my oldest niece when she was about 8 months pregnant.  She always lets me try crazy things when doing a shoot with her.  This is her in a storefront in downtown Buffalo inside an interior decorator’s store front.  People are always so gracious when I ask them if I can do these odd things, honestly, they don’t mind at all!
